The Department of Fisheries, Livestock and Veterinary Services plays a critical role in promoting animal health, sustainable aquaculture, livestock development, and market access for fish and animal products.

Key Functions include:

1. Delivering veterinary services across the district
2. Facilitating safe trade in animals and animal products
3. Promoting animal welfare and disease-free zones

Implementing livestock development programmes and rangeland management

4. Supporting fisheries and aquaculture through education and regulation
5. Improving access to fisheries and livestock markets for small-scale producers
6. Collaborating on food safety and zoonotic disease prevention

The Department has 4 sub sections which are

1. Fisheries and Aquaculture- This section is responsible for the management and development of fisheries and aquaculture activities
2. Livestock Development Section- The section promotes the productivity and sustainability of livestock farming systems in the district
3. Veterinary Services- Focused on animal health and public safety, this section safeguards both livestock and humans from zoonotic diseases
4. Fisheries, Livestock and Marketing Unit- This unit promotes the economic viability of fisheries and livestock sectors by facilitating access to profitable markets.
